Investment in shore electricity – eight facilities in Bremerhaven
In compliance with a decision of the Bremen Senate, ships in Bremerhaven should be able to be supplied with clean eco-power as from 2023.
For the cruise shipping operators it will probably be possible by 2023 to source shore power at the Columbus Quay of the Columbus Cruise Center in Bremerhaven. A total of eight stationary shore-power outlets are planned. These in turn will be fed entirely with green electricity from the grid.
These shore power stations for vessels are a further step on the way to the climate-neutral port. To reduce carbon and particle emissions, the Federal Government is funding half of the investment costs for the eight units in the ports. For them to be used effectively it is necessary that as many ships as possible are quickly re-fitted and that new vessels are appropriately equipped from the start.
